The housing department has looked at the way the role of the housing officer in particular has changed and the need for more face to face contact in the community, assisting tenants with all aspects of housing, identifying and providing support so they can sustain their tenancies.

We have now created a more joined up approach and have introduced 4 patches and within each patch there is a Rents Housing Officer, a Tenancy Management Housing Officer and Housing Administrator support.

This now gives tenants named officers who they can contact directly.  This not only creates continuity for our tenants but staff become more knowledgeable about tenants in their patch and become aware of issues in the wider community.

Both rents and tenancy management officers are now dealing with each other’s tasks while out and about which is saving staff time, traveling costs and officers are becoming more confident in working towards a more generic housing officer role rather than specialised.  In effect one officer being able to provide a seamless service for our tenants.
This new way of working is structured to ensure that officers continue to assist with other issues such as gas servicing, failed access for repairs, property and site inspections and much more.
