A new, exciting initiative between Communities First and Family Housing. “Come Cook with Me” will help our tenants and the wider community to develop their life skills by learning to cook a healthy Chinese meal.

This project will be run from our scheme at Swan Gardens in St Helen’s Road. The staff team at Swan Gardens in partnership with tenants and Communities First staff have created 10 delicious recipes which individuals can learn to cook during the course. The project is limited to 4 people per session and will be on a first come first served basis.

The course will start on Monday 13th October 2014 and run every 2 weeks for 4 sessions from 1.30pm-4.00pm. There will be a 2 week break, and then it will run for another 4 sessions.

Communities First will be sourcing all local healthy ingredients from the Vetch Veg allotments. The hope is that this will be the start of an ongoing event with other ethnic groups such as the Bangladeshi community.

The course is open to anyone and travel costs will be covered. Participants will have the opportunity to learn to cook a meal from scratch, learn to eat with chopsticks and be given a free Wok to take home to share the experience with others. There is also an option for people to complete a free food hygiene certificate if they are interested.

Anyone interested should apply now!
