BENEFIT CAP

From the 7th November 2016 the benefit cap has been lowered to £20,000 per year for couples and lone parents and £13,400 for single claimants. Those already subject to the higher benefit cap will see a drop in their entitlement to housing benefit immediately.  However, the majority of claimants will not be affected by the lower benefit cap until the 12th December 2016 in this area. It is vital that claimants are fully aware of these changes, that their entitlements to benefits are checked to ensure that they are not missing out on benefits that would exempt them from this cap applying or other help and assistance is provided.
